Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
